A scrappy baby girl quilt

Well this is probably my favorite quilt yet. The process from beginning to end was blissful.

A friend commissioned this quilt for her brother's first baby. She is the same friend who commissioned wonky Mother Goose log cabin baby quilt for her friend's baby, below:

Quilt for Adelaide, made about a year ago

I kick myself that I didn't take photos on the weekend, before washing the quilt, because I ended up having to take pictures in artificial light. Except for this first one below, of the binding, made with Alisse Courter fabric.

In this closeup you can see the Sujata Shah wonky flying geese;
also, the half square triangle blocks were pieced by stash sister Nancy's former daughter-in-law

The parents like owls ... apparently ..

There are scraps from every which source ...

.. scraps from thrift clothes, from a special friend's stash,
from Nancy, from a quilter who sold me her stash before moving to Switzerland ...

scraps from my dear friend Susie ..

.. scraps from my old vintage stash ..

I just had to document every square inch. As I quilted over each inch of this I enjoyed it more than I can express. I wish I could have kept it. I hope Eveyln and her parents will love it.

  2. If Evelyn and her parents don't just adore it, you snatch it right back! Oh, this is my favorite, too. The palette, the fabrics, the blending -- every single inch!

  3. I never had a quilt as a kid, but I've always thought that children must especially love scrap quilts. So much to look at & love. This one is just perfect! I see it being loved to tatters -- the highest praise for any quilter. Well sewn!

p.s. Ah ha! You are the one who got Leslie's scraps! I had them in my cart, but waited too long. :)

  4. What I love even more is knowing years down the road the possibility of this quilt being handed down to future generations. So so very special!

  12. This is beautiful. I realize I don't have enough low volume fabric to make a quilt like this, but I think that is something that will be corrected soon!

  15. This is a very sweet quilt. I really like the colors – they are so muted – it gives a feeling of softness. Time goes by so quickly. We are already in March and I totally forgot the Bulloch Hall quilt show. Luckily yesterday I saw an article about it – it ends this week-end, so we’ll go tomorrow or Wednesday. Thinking about quilts I came to look at your latest creation, and enjoyed your pretty quilt.

  16. This is beautiful! I adore that you documented so much of the quilt. I have a difficult time documenting my work effectively. There are many interesting moments and textures in this quilt that I'm sure the young recipient will love and cherish.
