My FIL's quilt finished


I managed to finish the quilting on this one before we left for a weekend up north, our last weekend with him here with us this year. We will put him on the Zephyr train Saturday.

I am happy with the soft thickness, accomplished with a cotton/poly batting 80/20, and with quilting every 2-3 inches.


This Instagram pic, taken with my iPad, shows the quilt cooler than it is.
The other images are truer warmth.


I gave him the quilt in the car in the back seat as Don drove and his brother rode in the front. He seemed pleased. Didn't say much, but he never does. The important thing is that he knows I love him, I loved having him stay with us, and that this will keep him warm.

    It is charming, gentlemanly & warmly sweet. I really love it.
    If he uses it, I consider it a win. My Mom never used the quilts I gave them/her. The first, for Mom & Dad was always saved for "good". The smaller one, when she was in nursing care with dementia, was kept in a drawer so it wouldn't be stolen. Both are now happy, used quilts in my house.

      Thank you, Beth. I'm so glad you love it. I appreciate what you share about the quilts you gave your parents. It fits the generation, doesn't it? It may not get cool enough here this week before he leaves for him to want to cover up. I took the afghan he was using on his chair and washed it so he'd have to use the quilt. :) But so far, he has not done much to look it over or feel it.

      Thank you, Boots. It means a lot that you are happy and proud. :) Dad does not express emotions much, and he really hasn't seemed to notice the quilt after first receiving it, and that was minimal. Well, I believe my SIL Sally will urge him to cover up with it in Colorado, so maybe it will be one of those things that he will grow attached to over time. I'm OK. He knows I made it from love.

    Oh Ruth, of course he knows you love him! Nobody, absolutely nobody, makes a quilt for someone they don't love! I suspect that in time it may become a touchstone for him, something cozy and lovely to remind him of his family and protect him from the chill. It's beautiful, too. I love the colors and patterns. A beautiful gesture of love.
